This Saturday May 21, at 8:00 am we are meeting at the Scout House Parking Lot (Holy Cross Church) to assemble into groups and participate in the "Keep Polk County Beautiful" event.  T-shirts, gloves and trash bags will be distributed.

Please let me know if you will not be able to attend.

We also would like to know who is planning to attend The Pack 515 Summer Fun Swimming event at Lake Eva Park in Haines City on August 13th from 9:30 am to 11:30 am.  We will have the entire water park to ourselves for those two hours.  At Noon the public will be allowed to come into the park.  If you choose to leave, you will not be allowed back in, unless you pay (or they let you back in) providing it's not sold out.  Plans are still being discussed about doing a pot-luck lunch afterwards.

Please let me know if you plan to attend and how many will be present. (Siblings, Adults, etc)

Thanks Mr. Don

All:

First off, hope to see you all tomorrow morning for the Lake Clean up project.  David has sent details and it's on the FaceBook page.  Sounds like the reward for the clean up effort will be worth it.

Our next Den meeting is scheduled for Tuesday the 3rd of May at 6:30pm at Garden Grove School Cafeteria.  It's been awhile since we met, so hopefully you all remember me. :o)

We will be working on getting our BSA Emergency Preparedness Pin Award.

Please let me know if you will not be able to make it.  The Uniform is the Class A.  We are still Bears, so please come dressed appropriately.

No meeting on the 10th and the Pack meeting has been moved to the 17th.

If you are interested in going to see the Yankees Baseball team play on the 22nd, please let me know.  Ticket orders are due by the 7th.

Details will be coming, but we will be having a Tree Sale on Saturday May 14th at the Scout House.  This will be in connection with the Boy Scouts Car Wash.  We do not need to participate int he Car Wash, but we will be selling trees for $10 I believe.

Thanks and hope to see you Saturday and Tuesday night.

Mr. Don

Don't forget that the Raingutter Regatta race will be held at the Howell's house this Saturday at 1:00 pm.  Registration for your boat is from 12:00 pm to 12:45 pm.  The event is in their backyard, so bring chairs and/or blankets to camp out on during the race.  It's a pirate theme, so come dressed as a pirate if you like.  It's a lot of fun.  Also remember to bring water or drinks and maybe a snack.

If you still need a boat kit, it's not too late,  You can still get one through the Pack for $5, or you can probably get one at Andy Thornal's.  The boats are mostly ready to go with some sanding and paint......

Hope to see you all there.  Godd luck to all.

Mr. Don.

All:

If you did not see me this weekend at Camping, You will need to get with me for a new "pin" for your Space rocket.  I have them here at the house.  I do not know if I will be going to the Space Derby on Saturday as we have an event with our Daughter for Girl Scouts on the same day.  Have to pick one and I picked hers since I've done the Space Derby twice already with Cameron.

If you can reply to let me know your going to the Derby, I can find out who is going that still needs a new pin.  If you can't get it from me, Maybe one of you will be able to bring it to the derby to make a last minute exchange before you check in your rockets.

Thanks Mr. Don

All,

This is a reminder that we will be having a meeting tomorrow at Garden Grove at 6:30 pm.

This is the final meeting before the Blue and Gold Ceremony, so I'd like to see everyone come in their Class A uniforms.  I will be making a quick look over of the uniforms to make sure that we all look great for the upcoming ceremony.  If your missing any patches, etc, now would be a great time to get them sewn on.

The Bear Den has been given the honor of helping the Boy Scouts with the Flag Ceremony at the Blue and Gold.  We will be practicing the Flag Ceremony tomorrow.  The Boy Scouts will do the American Flag and the Pledge of Allegiance, we will do the Pack Flag and the Cub Scout Promise.  I would like to have the boys practice the Cub Scout Promise to make sure that they are getting it right and confidently.  We want to do our best.

The Blue and Gold is scheduled for 5:30 pm on the 5th.  I would really like to see everyone in our den there at 5:15 pm so that we can get organized and know where we will need to be for the Flag Ceremony.  Please let me know if you will not be able to make it at that time.

Let your boys know that we are going to be practicing the flag ceremony and voting for the boy that does the best leading it tomorrow.  He will also lead on Saturday.  Each boy will get to pick one parent, guardian or other person present to vote for the most respectful and well done ceremony.  All the boys will be part of the Color Guard.  In the event of an 8 way tie, we will have to come up with another way to vote. :o(

Please let me know if you will not be present tomorrow night.  Unfortunately if you don't come tomorrow night, your son will not be in the running to lead the flag ceremony.

Thanks  Mr. Don

All,

The next meeting is Tuesday @ 6:30 pm at Garden Grove Elementary.  We will be talking about Recycling and Energy use.  We will also "clean up" some of the school grounds, so if you have rubber gloves, please bring them and a trash bag or Wal-mart bag.  I'll try to bring extra's if you forget, but I may not have enough for everyone.

I'm going to cancel the meeting scheduled for the 25th since we have the Pinewood Derby on that same week on Saturday the 29th.

We are getting very close to making our Bear Rank.  The Blue and Gold Ceremony is scheduled for March 5th and we need to be done with all the required achievements by then.  I will bring a list of where everyone is and what else will need to be done by then.  Some of this will need to be made up at home if you missed some of the meetings or events.

Hope your all working on your Pinewood derby cars.  If you need help, let me know and we can work out some time to meet and work on them.

Thanks, Mr. Don

All,

I have the Pinewood derby kits and will bring them on Saturday to the Circle B Bar reserve.  The race is scheduled for Saturday January 29th.

The attached link is very helpful from Dremel power tools.  They and Lowe's are going to have a workshop on Saturday the 15th, I think at 11:00 am.  If you want help and ideas to make your car, please plan to attend this event.  I would like to hear from you if your coming so we can make a reservation soon to make sure we all get a spot.

http://www.dremelderby.com/

They also have car kits, etc for sale, however, the BSA requires that you use the "official" kit that I will be giving you tomorrow.  If your car does not pass the inspection, you may not be allowed to race.

So far we have Drinks, Chips and Hot Dogs that I know of for tomorrow.

Thanks Don

Happy New Year everyone.  Hope you all had a nice break for Christmas.

We do not have a meeting tonight.  Our next meeting is at the Circle B Bar reserve.  We have a class scheduled from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.  Please go to the main building and they have a desk area for questions.  They should be able to direct us to our "classroom".  The uniform of the day is the Class A shirt and pants or jeans.  You can bring your Class B t-shirt to change into if we would like to go on a hike afterwards.  The facility is awesome and you may want to go check it out.  The short "lake" trail is about 1/2 hour hike.  Please bring at least one water bottle per person.  My family is probably going to do the hike depending on the weather.

Does anyone want to meet there at noon and do a picnic lunch?  It's one of the requirments in the book that can be easily filled this way, or you can do a picnic on your own some other time.

Please let me know who would like to meet at noon and we can arrange that with who brings what food, drink, etc.

Thanks Mr. Don

For our January 8th meeting at Circle B Bar reserve the Rangers have a program set up that we can do called Nature for kids.  It's from 1:00pm to 3:00 pm.  Details below:

The Nature for Kids is a program for ages 5-11. They meet in the morning from 9am-11am with ages 5-8 and then meet in the afternoon from 1pm-3pm with ages 9-11. They will meet once a month on the 2nd Saturday of the month. Each month we have a nature theme at the Center, so the presentation, activity and crafts will be related to those monthly themes. January’s monthly theme is Trees and Plants Around Us. The really neat thing is the program is led by teenagers from the local high schools, who have extensive background in environmental studies. I know you mentioned you are not arriving until 11 am, if you are interested in attending that would be great.

I know we have some kids in both age groups, but I think since most are at least 8 going on 9, we would be better in the 9-11 age group from 1-3pm.  I need to get an accurate head count for this, so please respond ASAP to me and let me know if you can be there for this.  We could still do a picnic lunch at noon, before the program and/or take a small hike to achieve our goal and/or get a hiking beltloop for those that don't have one yet.

Please let me know via e-mail by Sunday or tomorrow at the Space Derby.

Good Luck Racers.

Thanks Mr. Don

Cub scouts and families,

Thank you for coming to the Fire Station last night.  Hope you all learned a little bit about safety and what the Firemen do.  Please complete achievement # 11e at home (Escape plan, fire drill and meeting place) and 11g and sign off as Akela in the books.  I'll sign the Den leader portion at the next meeting (hopefully!)

As promised, here is the list of ingredients that I currently have from some of you for the Trail Mix:

Pretzels
Raisins
Cheddar Chex mix
2 jars of peanuts
M&M's
Reese's Peanut Butter chips

Please bring whatever else you would like to add to the mix for next Tuesday.

Also don't forget a gift to exchange for $10 or so.

Homework for next week is to do any two of the following from Achievement # 9 in the Bear handbook.  9b, 9c, 9d, 9f or 9g.   Please let me know which two (2) of these you have done.  If you do more than 2 that's okay too, just let me know which one's you have done.  If you do more than 2, it will go towards Elective arrow points.  We will be doing 9a and 9e in our meeting on Tuesday the 7th at 6:30.  Sis, Chris's Mom will be bringing sandwiches from Subway and Heather, Austin's Mom will be bringing soda.  I'll have the ingredients for Cookies and the trail mix mentioned above.  If you want to bring anything else for the party, feel free.  We will need cups and napkins or paper towels.  Someone may want to bring juice?

David has not let me know yet if the Church kitchen is available, but let's plan on that for now, and if it changes, I will let you know via an e-mail.

This will be our last Den meeting of the year.  The Pack meeting is on Saturday December 11th at 1:00 pm at Garden Grove.  Have your rockets ready to go and please bring your Dues money for 2011 if you have not paid yet.  Also bring any money you have collected for the fund raiser.

The first meeting for 2011 is scheduled for Saturday January 8th at Circle B Bar reserve.  I would like to do a hike and maybe have a picnic lunch or snack afterwards.  Does anyone have any problems meeting on a Saturday for this?  What time would be best for you?  Please e-mail me and let me know and we'll try to go with the majority.

Thanks and have a great rest of the week.

Mr. Don

Attention Scouts and families,

We have a slight change in our calendar for the next two meetings.  Our next meeting on Tuesday November 30th at 6:30 pm will be held at the Garden Grove Fire Station, address: 2101 Register Road Southeast, Winter Haven.  This located behind Gold's Gym area.  Register road comes out on Cypress Gardens Road on one end and Cypress Gardens Blvd, by K-mart on the other end.  We will be talking about Achievement # 11 in the Bear Book.  Class A Uniforms please.

The meeting on Tuesday December 7th at 6:30 pm will be at Holy Cross Church scout house.  It's where we had the Car Wash and Yard Sale.  We will be making Cookies and Trail Mix.  If you haven't brought a trail mix ingredient yet, please do so at either of the next two meetings. I thought this would also be a good night to have our Den Christmas party if you want one.  Please let me know if your interested in doing a gift exchange.  Several people mentioned this to me, so I thought it would be a good night for it since it's our last Den meeting of the year. Class B uniforms.

We should keep the gifts to about $10.  Please write your son's name and what they would like (for $10) on a piece of paper and bring it to the next meeting to set up an exchange of names.  We can do this right after we are done at the Fire Station before we dismiss for the night.  If you do not want to do this, please let me know via e-mail or text or call so we can make everyone happy.

Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving.  Mr. Don

Good Morning Den # 1,

I wanted to follow up with the Discount Cards that everyone is selling.  How are you all doing?  Please bring any money or checks for the ones that you sold with you next Tuesday to the meeting.  If you could put your money/checks in an envelope with your sons name and amount on it to hand in to me so I make sure that you get credit for them.  If you have not sold them all yet, no worries, we still have time, we just want to get the money deposited for the ones that did sell so far.

Reminder that we will not have a meeting tonight.

Thanks and hope you all have a great holiday and "Black Friday".

Scouts and families,

I hope to see you all on Saturday at Holy Cross Church 201 Kipling Lane for the Yard Sale and Car Wash fundraiser.  The yard sale will start setting up at 5:00 am!  Yes I said 5:00 am.  Sales start at 6:00.  Car Wash starts at 8:00 am.  Both run until about 1:00 pm.  Please try to make it if you can.  We'll have drinks and some donuts. The boys have a fun time washing the cars with the other boys.  Class B T-shirt is the uniform of the day.  I understand if you can't make the whole time, but even if you can give an hour it will help relieve the boys like Cameron that will be there the entire time.  The funds raised in all our fundraisers are used to help defray the cost of the awards, etc. which helps to keep our dues as low as we possibly can.  I would love to see a good turnout to support this.

Notes for our next meeting.  If you have not purchased a Space Derby kit, they will be available on Saturday at the Car Wash.  If you can't make it there, let me know and I can pick some up to bring to the Den meeting.  The cost is $5.00.

We will be working on making a display for the models (Space Derby) kits that they can show off their space derby on.  Please bring in any kind of craft items that you can find to do this.  Shoe boxes, glue, markers, paper, tape, scissors, pencils, magazines, washable paint, small rocks, sticks...etc.  whatever you have that they can use to build a scene with.

We also will be collecting the ingredients for "trail mix" at this or the next meeting.  Please bring one item that your son likes for trail mix.  No-one in our Den has any food allergies reported so it should be fine to bring whatever you like.  I will collect them all this week and at the next meeting and we will make it at the next meeting as one or requirements.

We will not meet the week of Thanksgiving.  Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

The last meeting of November will be on the 30th.  I'm trying to make arrangements to meet at Holy Cross to use their kitchen to bake cookies as one of our requirements.  They are remodeling the church and this may not be available.  If anyone knows of a place with a kitchen we can use for the meeting, please let me know.  It may be needed.  We need an oven and a place to mix things up as well as a sink.  We may have to do some creative cooking in a box oven if all else fails.

If you haven't sent me the Belt Loops and Pins that your son has, please do so.

Thanks and have a good weekend everyone!

Mr. Don

Could everyone please send me a list of all the Belt Loops and/or Pins that your son has earned.  I have some of them, but with Loopapalooza, etc I don't know who has what right now and I would like to keep it straight in my records.

You can either reply by e-mail or write them down and give to me next time we meet.

Thanks Don

Attention Bears:

We have been given the honor and duty of performing the Flag Ceremony for the Pack on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.

Since we are still working out the bugs, could everyone please come about 10 minutes early at 6:50 pm so that we can go over the steps one more time so that we look sharp for this.  Class A uniform required.

Thanks everyone and see you on Tuesday night.  Please let me know if you will not be able to attend.

For the those that are going to Loopaplooza on Saturday the 6th of November.

A group of us are planning to meet at Garden Grove School parking lot at 7:30 am.  We will leave no later than 7:45.

The attached map (posted on website) shows that is takes about 48 minutes to get there.  You will have to pay $1.50 in tolls or use a sunpass if you have one.

Please note that unless you purchased additional lunches, you will only recieve one lunch.  I plan to bring food for Cameron since he is so picky.  I'm also bringing some water.  I don't know how long they give us for lunch or if you can leave, so you might want to do the same.

If anyone wants to car-pool we can do that too and leave some cars in the parking lot.

Please let me know if you want to meet there so I know who to expect.

Thanks Mr. Don

PS, The boys should wear their Class B T-shirt.

Don't forget our meeting is tomorrow night at the school at 6:30 pm.  Please bring a pocket knife and ivory soap with you.  Wal-Mart sells pocket knives for about $7.00 or Andy Thornal has Cub Scout knives for about $25.  They should only be about 2 or 3 inches max length.

Homework that should be turned in is 3a, (write about what makes America special to me), and  Achievement 7c, 7d, 7e and 7f.  If you haven't done the Bicycle belt loop, and want to earn that, please turn in the sheet for it.

Most of you still need to earn the BOBCAT.  The next Pack meeting is next Tuesday and you must have the BOBCAT completed in order to receive any of your awards.  We will be testing the boys again tomorrow.  Please practice with them.

Thanks and hope everyone had a safe Halloween.

Boys and Parents,

Please read the e-mail below and let me know ASAP if you are interested in joining the Pack and Troop (Boy Scouts) for a flag retirement ceremony like the one we held this weekend at the State Park.  We need boys to take the strips of the flag and put in the burn area.  In Class A uniforms.  It is a very moving experience and I would recommend it highly if you've never been before.

Please reply to me ASAP so I can reserve a spot for them.

Thanks Mr. Don

Date: Wed, 27 Oct 2010 11:59:01 -0400

Gentlemen:

Pack 515 is hosting a Flag Ceremony for the Knights of Columbus on Monday, November 1st, starting at 6:30 pm, but we ask that the boys be there between 5:45 and 6:00 pm for a run-through.

Knights of Columbus
401 3rd Street
SW
Winter Haven
Fl 33880

(Old Red Lobster Bldg.)

This will be the same script recently used at OSSP.

Our Webelo II Group will be the honor guard for this event, and our 515 Troop will be conducting the reading portions of the event.

Brian has requested that Bears and Wolves be the stripers for the burn barrel portions of the ceremony.

Please review your rosters and let me know who might do this again. I would like to see those who have not burned or were not present at OSSP to take part in this.

We need a total of 13 boys.

Knights are planning to donate a $200 donation for this service.

Thank you.

Thanks for coming last night to the Police Station for the tour.  I hope you all enjoyed it.

Please sign off on page 67 for 7b. Go over 7c, 7d, 7e and 7f with the boys and sign off.  We will work on 7a at a future meeting.

Homework would be to work on Achievement 1a and 1b unless you plan to do the God and Me in January/December with the church.  Then you would not need to do 1a-b unless you want it for elective "Arrow points."

Also keep going on the Bobcat.  The Law of the Pack seems to always be the hardest.  Try to get them to understand that you are "Akela" and they follow you.  They help the pack go and Pack helps them grow.  Lastly they give goodwill by doing things to help others.   Follow me to go, the pack helps you grow and we help others.  Or something similiar.  I'll be asking for parents or older siblings to help check off the Bobcat requirements at the next Den meeting while we are working on the carving activities.

Next meeting will be November 2nd @ 6:30 pm.  We will need a pocket knife and 1 or 2 bars of Ivory soap.  Also if you have some newspaper you could bring in, I would appreciate it.

Thanks Mr. Don

Reminder that our meeting tomorrow, Tuesday October 26th will be at the Winter Haven Police Station at 6:30 pm in Class A uniforms.  Please bring your Bear books or let me know before noon tomorrow that you don't have one and I will bring copies of the pages you need.

Also the next meeting on November 2nd will be where we are working on the whittling chip, so you will need to bring a pocket knife and a bar (or two) of Ivory soap.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for coming last night.

I only had two boys turn in Achievement 3a, please let me know when they have it done.  I'd like to keep it in the scrapbook if they print it on a piece of paper.

Remember that our next meeting will be on Tuesday the 26th at 6:30 pm at the Winter Haven Police Station.  Please come dressed in your Class A uniforms and be on your best behavior.  Please bring your Bear book.  If you don't have one and can't get one before then, respond via e-mail so I can make a copy of the fingerprint pages for you.

Homework to start thinking about will be Achievement 1 or 2.  Both are about your religion.  Achievement 2 can be accomplished through our charter organization, Holy Cross Church.  Our Cub Master David sent out an e-mail about the God and me program today, which will complete Achievement 2 in the book.  If you are going to go that route, it will not be done until sometime in December, but it’s a perfect way to do it.  You can also earn the God and me through your own church if you choose.  David may have more details you could ask at a Pack meeting.

Please keep studying the Bobcat trail.  I would like everyone to have that by the next Pack meeting.  Do your best.

Thank you,

Mr. Don

Did anyone find an extra Bear hat during our Den meeting last night?  One of the boys seems to have misplaced his.  Please let me know if you ended up with an extra one when you got home.

Thank you for checking.  Remember Honesty is one of the core Cub Scout values, so if you grabbed it accidentally, just let me know.

Thanks, Mr. Don

Cub Scout famlies:

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday October 19th at 6:30 pm at Garden Grove.

For this meeting we will be learning about bikes and rules of the road for bikes etc.  If you have a bike and helmet that you can bring, please bring it to the meeting.  If you have an extra bike from a sibling or whatever, please see if you can bring that too as some may not have a bike or be able to bring one with them.  Please let me know if you will be able to bring a bike or borrow one from a neighbor, friend, etc.

If you have a bike lock, please bring that too as it's part of what we will be learning.

If everyone will be able to bring or ride a borrowed bike, we will also be working on earning the Bicycling belt loop.

Please complete and turn in the "homework" sheets that I gave out at the last meeting if you did not do it at the Pack meeting.  Also have them working on Achievement 3a to turn in.

As always, keep working on the BOBCAT so we can award them at the next Pack meeting.  They won't be able to get any other awards until they earn the Bobcat. I'll be looking for volunteers to help test the boys at the meetings.

At one of our upcoming meetings we will be working with pocket knives and ivory soap carvings.  If you do not have a pocket knife, you may want to start looking for one.  The boys will be learing about knife safety before they are allowed to use a knife and all rules must be strictly followed for everyone's safety.  If anyone out there is a knife expert, please get with me, I'd like some input and help on this activity.

One last thing, we will be wearing the class B Pack t-shirts to the bike den meeting.  If you have not paid your dues, you won't have a t-shirt.  Please let me know what size you need and bring the dues money on Tuesday.  I will have the shirts avaialble for those that pay.  If you would like an additional shirt for youself or others, let me know the sizes.  They are $10.00.  Please let me know before tomorrow at 5:30 pm so I can arrange to get the t-shirts at the Pack Leaders meeting Thursday night.

Thanks everyone,

Mr. Don

Hi all,

I've attached the homework page for Achievement 3a for those of you that do not have the Bear handbook yet.

Once you pick up the book, please sign off on pages 75, 76, 78 for Achievement 8 and pages 131, 134, 135 for Achievement 16 that we completed during the meeting.  Also sign page 36 for 3a.

You sign off as Akela (leader).  I will sign off as the Den Leader once you have given the okay that they have accomplished the tasks and turned in the homework sheets.

If you did not make it to the Meeting on Wednesday, please let me know when you have done Achievement 8c, 8d, 8g, 16a, 16b, 16c, and 3a.

All new scouts please continue working on the Bobcat Trail so I can test them out and they can earn their first patch.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Our next meeting will on Tuesday October 12th, 2010 at 7:00 pm at Garden Grove Cafeteria.   This is the Pack meeting so please wear your class A uniform.  T-shirts will be available for you once you pay your $30 pack dues.  If parents or siblings would like to puchase a t-shirt, they will be there for $10 once the boys have all recieved theirs.

I still need to find a volunteer leader to be my assistant Den Leader in order to be in compliance with BSA rules of "two deep" leadership, so please consider helping out.

Cub Scout families,

Are any of you interested in family camping with our Pack on October 22?  The Pack still has one site left that you can rent or share with another family to split the costs.  If you do not have a tent, we will find you one, the Pack has some extras available, so don't let that be the reason you don't want to come.

Or you could come out for the day on Saturday.  The events begin at 9:00 am.  The normal park admission is waived if you tell the rangers you are with Pack 515 and give them my name and site # 12.  We are asking for a donation for the Ranger program to support them.

If you are interested in doing either one of these, please let me and Alyson Hooker, our camping chair know immediately.  Her e-mail is afsunole@tampabay.rr.com.

She needs to know today if you are coming so that we can have the ranger programs booked.

It should be a great weekend and the lake is there for swimming.  It has a nice sand beach and is spring fed so it's nice and clear.

Thanks Mr. Don

Just a quick reminder that our first Den meeting will be tonight at 6:30 pm in the Garden Grove Cafeteria.

I have a seminar for work that just came up that is at the Winter Haven Chamber until 6:00 pm, so I may possibly be running a few minutes late.  Hopefully not, but if I am, my wife Karen will be there to get everyone settled in and start introductions of the boys.

Hope to see you tonight.  If you can't make it, please call or e-mail me to let me know you won't be there.

Thanks

Mr. Don

All,

The response for meeting on Wednesday, October 6th at 6:30 pm at Garden Grove Cafeteria has been unanimous for those that responded, so we will be meeting on Wednesday this week.

I'm sorry for the changes, but as we know, sometimes we have to be flexible.

If you have prior commitments on Wednesday and absolutely cannot make it, please call me 863-224-2256 (cell) or 863-318-1059 (home) or e-mail back and I will see about having a small group or individual meeting on Tuesday at my home.  I don't have room for all 12 boys, so please only do this option if you can't make it on Wednesday.  I'd like to start the Den meetings off all together, but I also understand that may not be possible this time.

Thanks for understanding and please let me know if you need to meet me on Tuesday.

Mr. Don

Good morning Cub Scouts and families,

I have attached a working draft of the calendar. (posted to Bear’s web page)  Our first meeting will be next Tuesday October 5th, 2010 @ 6:30 pm at the Garden Grove Elementary School Cafeteria.  I've included the Pack meetings and events that I know of at this point.  Some of the meetings may be subject to change, but for the most part, this calendar should be pretty close.

We have had our final roundup and we now have 13 boys.  It'll be an interesting first meeting getting to know everyone.

Hopefully you have had a chance to go to Andy Thornal's by now to get your shirt's, patches, blue neckerchief, and Bear Book.  All the new boys need to work on the Bobcat section in the front of the book, including the Parents guide to child abuse.  This is one requirement that they have to get before they can earn anything else in Cub Scouts, so please practice with them.

If you will not be able to make it to any meetings, please notify me by phone or e-mail as soon as possible, at least 2 hours before the meeting time.  Our Pack leadership has adopted a new no show rule for this year.  It's spelled out on the website under forms and policies.  If you do not show up to 4 consecutive meetings, it conveys no interest and your son will be dropped from the pack and any future events, e-mail etc.  It's not feasable for us to try to catch you up after a month of missed meetings with no communication, so please let us know if you can't make it.

Also under forms and policies is a Health Form and Web likeness release form for pictures of your son on the website and promotional materials.  His name will not be used, but pictures if you authorize it.  Please print out these forms and turn in to me at the next meeting or the pack meeting.  If you can't print them or find them, let me know and I can bring extra copies for you to fill out.

For new boys the last thing is Dues for the remainder of 2010.  They have been pro-rated at $30.  This is due by the next Pack meeting on Tuesday October 12th.  This cost includes a Class B t-shirt and all their awards.  The shirts have been ordered and we hope to have them by the next Pack meeting.  I believe adults will be able to purchase additional t-shirts for their child or themselves for $6 or $7 if you would like one, but don't quote me on the price yet.  This was last years cost, so I don't know if the new order cost will go up or not.  Information will follow when I get it.

That's all I have for now.  Hope to see you next Tuesday and let's have a great Scout year.

Mr. Don

Good Afternoon,

The attachment with this e-mail is for the BobCat requirement.  It is a good reference guide if you do not have the Bear book yet.  It is also located on our Pack website if you can't open this attachment.

All the new boys will need to kow all 8 of these things in order to advance, so it's a good time to start having them practice and memorize it.  For the "veterans", it's also a good refresher.  We say the Cub Scout promise at every Den and Pack meeting during the Flag ceremony and they will salute the flag and show the cub scout sign, so please practice with them.

I have not heard a preference from everyone yet for the dates, but Tuesday seems to be winning right now.  If you have a preference or conflict, please let me know soon.

Thanks,

Mr. Don

Hello parents of Cub Scout Pack 515, Den # 1

Some of you know me, some of you don't.  My name is Don Sarasin and I am the Den Leader for the Bears.  As of today we have 11 boys in the den.  I have one more "Roundup" at Chain of Lakes Elementary on the 28th of September so we will have our final numbers then.  I will also be requesting another parent to be my co-den leader for this year.  Any volunteers?

For now, if your new, Welcome to Cub Scouts, if your from last year, Welcome Back!

For all you new Cub Scouts we need to get started on learning the Bobcat trail.  It's spelled out in the Bear Handbook that you will need for this year.  They are available at Andy Thornal's in Winter Haven.  The address is:  336 Magnolia Ave SW Winter Haven, FL 33880-2904  phone  (863) 299-9999. You can also get them online or at the Scout Shop in Tampa. They also have all the scout gear that you'll need.  Our pack would like the boys to wear the Blue shirt, either short or long sleeve.  Our Pack # 515 and Den # 1.  They also need the world crest and the Gulf District Council patch.  The Bear hat is optional, but they'd like if you can purchase the Blue neckerchief and Bear slide to go on the neckerchief.  You can wear blue pants and any socks.  Shoes must be closed toes, no sandals or flip flops.  This is called the Class A uniform.

For some of our Den meetings we will be getting a Class B t-shirt.  Your dues will cover this expense, so it's not extra.  If we are working on a project, etc. we wear the class B so the class A stays looking good!  Pack dues for the remainder of 2010 are $30 and this covers your t-shirt as well as the awards that the boys will earn before the end of the year.  You can pay me at one of our Den meetings, or at the next Pack meeting.

It looks like our options for meeting are either going to be Tuesday's at 6:30 or Wednesday's at 6:30 pm at Garden Grove.  Please let me know which date works best for you and I will try to accommodate the majority of those that respond.  The first Den meeting will either then be Tuesday October 5th or Wednesday October 6th, depending on what is chosen.  The next Pack meeting will be on Tuesday October 12th at 7:00 pm at Garden Grove.

Please e-mail me with your preference of meeting dates and any other questions you may have.

Also let me know if this is the best e-mail to get in touch with you by or if you would prefer another address.

One last note, the Pack website is: http://www.pack515whfl.com/  Please check it out, It has information on the next Camping trip on October 22nd as well as other good information and a Pack calendar.  I will be getting a Den calendar as soon as we nail down our meeting date.

Thank you,

Mr. Don
