We will not have a Den meeting this week.  If you have completed any of the Activity Badge papers, please scan and send them to me, or make arrangements to get them to me no later than Wednesday in order to recieve any awards for them on the 14th, at our Pack meeting.  I need to turn these over to David on the 1st of February.

Thanks Mr. Don.

Our next meeting will officially be the Scouting for Food bag drop off on the 11th.  We will be meeting at the Holy Cross Scout House parking lot to assemble into teams at 8:00 am.  (Time may change by David, look for e-mails)

David is also trying to organize a pack wide meeting to cover the February camping trip.  Please be on the lookout for that e-mail also.

Have a good day!

The Pastor of St Johns has asked our Den if we would like to participate in Scout Sunday at their Church.  It's a way we can thank them for the use of the Scout House for our meetings and to show the congregation that the house is helping all of us and we appreciate the use of it.

They are Celebrating Scout Sunday on Sunday February 12th.  Services are at 8:30 AM and 11:00 AM.  We would be Ushers for the Church.  The Girl Scouts have also been asked to participate in this.

Full Class A, minus the hat would be the uniform of the day.  Our Chartered Organization, Holy Cross Church will most likely be having the same thing on the same day (NO, Holy Cross Scout Sunday is Feb 5), as well as maybe your own Churches, so I understand if you can't do this.

Please let me know soon if you would be able to help with this so I can give the Pastor a headcount.

Once I know we have some boys to do this, I will get more details on time to arrive and what exactly we will be doing.

Thanks Mr. Don

I hope everyone had a great Christmas Break.

Just an FYI that we will have a meeting on the 4th of January (Makenzie's Birthday :o) ) at 6:30 pm.

Marc Hurst a local Geologist will be coming in and doing a presentation on the Geologist Activity Badge.  Please arrive early if you can.  We will start with a Flag Ceremony and then have his presentation.

On Saturday January 7th, we will be doing the Scientist Activity Badge at the Florida Aquarium.  The Aquarium opens at 9:30 and the program starts at 10:00 am.  It will take approximately 2 hours and you will be free to enjoy the Aquarium for the rest of the day.  They do have a couple restaurants in the Aquarium.  Prices look reasonable, or you can pack a lunch and eat outside (weather permitting).  They don't allow you to bring in food, but you can leave it in the car until noon when we are "done".  Here is a link to their Website if you want to look around... http://www.flaquarium.org/

The address is:
The Florida Aquarium
701 Channelside Drive
Tampa, FL 33602
Phone: 813-273-4000

It looks like it's about 52 miles from the Girl Scout house ( 1 hour give or take depending on traffic )  If you go the I-4 route, you'll have $1.50 in tolls in Lakeland each way, or you can go through Highway 60 to Brandon about the same mileage, probably more time because of the stop lights...

We are going to leave our house at 8:15.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Mr. Don

For the 17th. St Johns has asked us to be in the State Farm parking lot from 11-3. If you are only able to come for a little while that is ok. I just need to know what time you would be able to stay for:) They are very excited to have us there to help.  We will be handing out toys to underprivileged children and giving them candy canes after they get the toys. This event is at the parking lot of State Farm, not at the church. If you will be there for 11, you need to be there about 20 minutes early to get where we need to go.  This is a great way for them to feel the joy of helping others esp during the holidays:) and to fulfill a requirment for Citizen if you need a service project.

Class A Uniforms please.

The children of St Johns have adopted a family for the holidays. This is a young family who is struggling to get their life started and they have asked us if we would like to join them in helping. Anything that we can give is better than nothing. Without the help of the church this family would not be having Christmas this year. Mom is 20, Dad is 22, child one is 4(girl), child 2 is 2(girl) and baby boy is 3 weeks old. They have asked us even for gently used toys that our kids do not use anymore. They are accepting food as well. I am not expecting all of us to go out and buy a cart full of things, just if you happen to have any extra or are willing to depart with some gently used toys for the kids, bring them to me or the Church office.  Any baby items would be great as well.

Thanks Don

All,

Scott Barr has offered an activity if we want.  We are only doing the Christmas party tomorrow night at 6:30 and he has a den meeting the same night.  They are meeting at the Chain of Lakes School at 6:30 pm and will be learning how ropes are made.  The Boy Scouts have a machine that will put ropes together and we will be using this to build the Gateway arch for our February camping trip.  We will still have our party and gift exchange in the Cafeteria if we move the meeting and then observe how the ropes are made.

I'm fine either way and I will leave it up to the majority as to what you want to do.

Please vote:

Keep party at Scout House

or

Move the party and meeting to COLE

We have the opportunity to complete our Scientist Activity Badge at the Florida Aquarium on January 7th from 10 am to noon with the Webelos II Den.  The cost is only $10 per person and includes admission to the Aquarium until 5:00 pm when they close that day.  It's a Saturday morning in Tampa.

If you are interested, please let me know so I can coordinate with Scott Barr on the details.

The next meeting is the Space Derby on Saturday December 3rd from 12:45 to ???  Our Den will be doing the Opening and Closing Flag ceremony.  Please make sure you are at the school by 12:30 at the latest so you can register your rocket, pay your dues and find out where we will meet to do the Ceremony.

We will also be picking up the Poinsettias at COLE for distribution to those that you sold to.  We still are looking for any volunteers to help with plant pick up and also for the Space Derby if you can give any time Saturday, it would be appreciated.  Everyone in uniform is only a volunteer for your boys benefit, please help give back a little if you can.

The meeting for Wednesday December 7th has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for January.  I'll let you know the date when I know.

The meeting for Wednesday December 14th will be about the Citizen Activity Badge and we will have a special speaker.  Please wear your Class A uniform this night.

If you have finished any Activity Badges, please bring your paperwork and books to the Space Derby so I can give you credit.

Is anyone interested in having a Christmas Party and/or gift exchange with the Den?   If so, we need to set a date/time.  The Scout house is available for next Wednesday since our meeting is cancelled and may be available for some times on the weekends, but I would have to verify with Karen and the other Girl Scout Troops.  Please let me know.

Thank you and I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  Mr. Don

David wants to know what we have completed for the Pack awards by Sunday so I need to get from everyone what parts of the Activities you have completed for:

Naturalist, Athelete, & Fitness by Sunday.  If you want to bring the books and/or forms to me Sunday before or after God and Family, that would be fine.  I can check them off or take with me and give back to you on Wednesday.  Please make sure your sons names are in the books and on forms if you leave them with me so I don't have to try to guess.  If your not attending God and Family this Sunday, please bring on Saturday to the Animal Shelter or make other arrangements by Sunday to get them to me.

For the meeting on Wednesday October 26th, we are going to finish the Athlete testing, then we'll have some down time with a Halloween party.  Please have the boys, siblings and you too dress in their costumes if you want.  Let's all bring something to share, cookies, cupcakes, juice boxes, candy, or whatever you would like to share with everyone.

After we get business out of the way, we'll just enjoy some time for friends, fellowship and feasting.

If anyone is opposed to letting your children dress up, please just come in their Class B or any t-shirt for this.

Good evening everyone,

Just a reminder that we have a meeting on Wednesday at 6:30 pm at the Girl Scout House.  Please wear your Class A uniforms.  We will have a special guest from the Forrestry department coming in to give us information for the Forrester Activity Badge.

Please try to bring your $7.00 for the God and Family program if you haven't done so.  First class will be on the 9th.  I'm hoping David gets the material to us this week. If not, then it will be waiting for us at the church on Sunday.

Keep working on the Fitness and Athelete Badges.

Next week will be the Pack meeting on Tuesday the 11th at 7:00 pm at COLE.  Class A.

October 19th we will be meeting at the Audobon society building on Lameroux Road.  It's down a few blocks from Garden Grove School and then almost to the end of Lameroux on the Left side. Class A uniform.  Since we will be also be going to the Audobon on our October 19th meeting, we'll finish the "testing" for Athelete on the 26th at the Girl Scout House instead of the 19th.  That give you an extra week to do it. Class A optional on the 26th.

Is everyone trying to collect money or items for the Humane Society?  Please do you best for the Animals.

Would someone like to take the lead on making a "collection box" and decorating it for the Pack Meeting?  Please let me know.

Thanks and see you all Wednesday.

Our October 19th meeting will be at the Audobon Society building at 115 Lameraux Road, Winter Haven 33884.  This is located right off Cypress Gardens Road a few blocks up from Garden Grove School.  They will be covering most of the requirements for Naturalist with us.  I will need to have one adult per child to assist them and keep the boys focused on the tasks at hand and live animals will be present.  Please arrive by 6:15 at the Audobon Society so that we can begin on time and get out on time.  This meeting will last until approximately 8:00 pm.  It's very important that you make this meeting as I won't have a way to make this activity up for you.  Please let me know if you will not be able to make it as I need to give them a firm headcount by the end of this week.

Thank you,

All:

On our Den Calendar for October 5th, I had put down possibly meeting at Circle B or Audobon.  Since this is a work in process, I have made arrangements with a Forester to come visit our Den and give a presentation that will cover most of the requirements for the Forester Activity Badge at the house on Polk Drive.

Please try to make arrangements to be at this meeting by no later than 6:30 pm so that we can show our guest how responsible and respectful we can be.

I would like to have everyone dressed in full Class A uniforms (Blue or Tan) that night and please bring your Webelos books to sign off after the presentation.

We'll begin with the Flag Ceremony and then introduce our Guest Speaker and let him give his presentation.  Please be on your best behavior.  Our Guest is coming from Frostproof on his time off as a favor to us.

For your homework from Wednesday, this link will provide a worksheet for the Fitness Activity Badge.  Please feel free to use this if it helps to accomplish it for you.  http://usscouts.org/advance/cubscout/worksheets/fitness.pdf

Let me know if you have any questions or if you don't have a printer, I can print one for you if you let me know.

The dates for this years God and Family program are projected to start on October 9th.  These will probably run from about 3 pm to 5:30 or 6:00 pm on Sunday afternoons for 7 meetings and a end of session pizza party.

This is one of the requirements that you need to earn your Webelos badge.  The alternatative is listed on Pages 50-51 of the Webelos handbook.  You must do one or the other.  It will be offered again next year, but I would suggest trying to do it this year.  If you do not want to do this at Holy Cross and your church ofers the same program, let me know and we can make arrangements with David to get you squared away.  Holy Cross is an Espicopal church, but that does not require you to be Espicopalian or to join their church.  It is a non-denominational program, but our Charter church has graciously allowed us to work with them for this requirement.

I will forward more information when everything is finalized, but wanted to give you the dates so you can start planning if you will be able to attend.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Mr. Don

Morning all,

For the Car Wash on Saturday, please plan to arrive by 7:45 am so that we can have everyone ready to go at 8:00 for the opening.

You may wear swim trunks if you choose, please wear the new Orange or the old Blue Class B T-shirt to show we are all together.

If you have any wash rags, hoses, or any type of equipment for washing cars, please bring it.

I'd like to ask for a volunteer or two to help sell the raffle tickets and handle the money for the Car Wash from either our Den, or Scott's, or a combination from both Dens.  We will have a canopy tent set up with a table and a cash box with change, all you need to bring is a folding chair.

You may want to bring a small snack for your child since we will be there about 4 hours +/-, and don't forget SUN BLOCK.

After the Car Wash is over and I get the money counted, I will let you know what amount you owe for Wet-n-wild via an e-mail leter that day.  Please try to pay that to me by Wednesday the 21st at our first meeting.  I have to send in the check by the 24th.

We will have some bottled water available, but you may want to bring something to drink also.

Hope to see you tonight at Chain of Lakes for Recruiting, or you can go to Brigham Academy too.  I won't be there, but Ryan and a few others will.  Please let me know if you go to that one.

Thanks Mr. Don
