Webelos II

Second Year Webelos Leader

Tod Zechiel (863) 326-6271

Below is an explanation of where we are going as a den in terms of accomplishing achievements. Use this link to download the schedule.

• There are three critical areas in your WEBELOS handbook that outlines what we are trying to achieve. They are page 49 WEBELOS Badge Requirements, pages 63-64 Arrow of Light Award, and page 74 Activity Badge Group.

• WEBELOS Badge Requirements. Last year we worked as a den on portions of the Fitness award and starting to memorize the Scout oath, sign, handshake, law, motto, etc… We also completed one elective activity badge - Sportsman. The remainder was up to the scout and their respective family to accomplish – mainly the Citizen award and the religion requirements. I do not plan to readdress the required tasks for the WEBELOS badge requirements. These will be left up to the individual scout to complete. A scout’s memorization is typically reviewed by the pack leader.

• Arrow of Light Award. There are five activity badges to complete. Fitness and Citizen – same as WEBELOS, plus Readyman, one from Mental Skills group (see page 74), one from Technology group, and one more elective. As a den, we accomplished the Readyman at Flaming Arrow. Also at Flaming Arrow scouts either accomplished or came close to accomplishing one badge from the Technology Group. Also as a den, we accomplished the Mental Skills by completing the Traveler badge. As a den we nearly accomplished the Outdoorsman badge requirement. We also began to memorize the Boy Scout motto, slogan, salute, etc….

What is up ahead this year? I want to finish as a den all the requirements that require involvement with the Boy Scouts for the Arrow of Light Award, except meeting individually with a Boy Scout troop leader. I also want to complete the Outdoorsman badge after 3 November when we help Polk County in their nursery for a conservation activity. By 26 November we will accomplish these goals.

The remainder of the scout year (from December to the end of February) we will focus on where most scouts are deficient in accomplishing the Arrow of Light Award and work as a den towards that goal. If you have accomplished achievements beyond what I have sent you on the tracking forms, let me know. This will help me plan. This will probably mean working on other achievements and memorization of Boy Scout motto, slogan, salute, etc….
